I am Standing Rock

Black Snake of the Sacred Waters

It is time to take a stand.   There is a Lakota Sioux Prophecy that speaks of the coming of a powerful black snake. Many have declared the Dakota Access Pipeline to be this snake that signals the end of one world as we transition into the next. It is now threatening to destroy sacred waters and land.    Destroying the sacred lands and resources of the native people will ultimately destroy all of us. In an age where we place the highest value on technology and information we are starved for real nourishment. Without the stories, myths and legends of native tribes we are at a loss for how to implement all the information and technology at our fingertips in service of life. If we cannot learn how to be in accord with nature we will be destroyed by it. The myths and legends of native tribes are like the cook books and recipes for how to turn food into nourishment. Without these instructions we are a culture that has lost its ability to turn the information it tirelessly gathers into nourishment to grow a healthy world.   The black snake is a symbol for the power of nature. If we cannot respect its potent energy, it will ultimately kill us.    I painted this image two years ago and it feels like it was a vision for what is now happening at Standing Rock. This goddess wears the sacred imagery of Native Americans:  buffalos horns and deer hoofs.  The black snake around her arm has the power to give and take life.    In this image we see that the goddess has come to terms with this paradox and knows how to channel it's power for good. Out of the snake's mouth shoots the essence of life force. Snake venom is both a poison and a remedy for itself. Venom/Anti venom. Below is a prayer for Standing Rock and all of humanity. You can  purchase the Standing Rock Sacred Waters Goddess now and 100% of the proceeds go to their defense fund .   Prayer for Standing Rock and The Black Snake of the Sacred Waters I pray that the cure, the anti venom, the medicine to heal the atrocities to native people, to our land and waters, and to each other will be found with ease, peace and joy now. . I pray for the power of the black snack to become an ally for change. May we all take courage that change looks first like death, as we shed our old skin and make space for new growth. . I invoke the alchemical powers of snake to transform what was once poison into medicine for the highest good of all concerned. . May oil turn to water. May violence turn to peace. May suffering become joy. May our differences connect us, through all time and all space, as was then and as it is now and shall always be. . I am standing rock. I am black snake. I am the poison and I am also the cure. This is the great mystery, that we each hold within. #prayforstandingrock    #whenwaterhadwings   #iamstandingrock #nodapl painting inspired by surfing of @leahloves
