In this 6 hour workshop hosted by The Laughing Coyote Project, we will cover the entire process of making a pair of sandals custom to your feet. You will be learning about both the technical aspects of sandal making as well as some of the history of Huaraches sandals and how minimalist shoes change the way we move.
A light home cooked lunch will be provided for you, please feel free to bring snacks or a dish to share.
Madelyn is a craftswoman and a self taught sandal maker. She has been making and teaching this craft since 2009. Her designs are inspired by the "huaraches" running sandals of the Tarahumara natives of The Copper Canyons in Mexico. She came to sandal making through practicing Ancestral skills where she learned a new way of being in nature. With less protection on our feet we are able to feel what is happening around us which allows us to enter into a conversation with the living landscape. When she is not making sandals she can be found learning and teaching other earth based skills and creating sacred space through ritual. She is a wordsmith, a painter and a musician. And last but not least, she loves to surf!
