Care take your body and soul/soles with a hand crafted anointing balm. These balms are both healing and nourishing for your skin as well as being the perfect conditioner for the leather of your sandals.

Restoring connection and creating intimacy is what truly heals us. Whether it be connection to the ground, to our bodies, to each other, to our environment. In order to feel true connection we must be willing to be vulnerable to the world inside and around us. The Latin root of the word vulnerable is vulnerare or "to wound."

True connection requires us to be open to the inevitable wounding that comes with intimacy. The pain as well as the pleasure. When we block ourselves from our pain we also block ourselves from our joy. We numb out. We lose connection. We cannot have one without the other, no matter how much we wish we could skip the painful experiences, these too connect us to each other.

This is where Anointing balms work their healing magic. By blessing and anointing our wounds we find the strength, the resilience, the gifts in our wounds that allow us to stay open to all of life—the full spectrum of what it means to be alive.

The plants within these balms are wise elders that know much about connection and intimacy. How to stay rooted, to follow the light, to trust how they grow. They are intimately connected to so many beings from their roots to their blossoms. They give and receive from bees and micro-organisms with ease.

The way I work with the plants honors their way of relating, I bring offerings and sit and sing with the plants for hours before I ask to harvest them. These are the days and moments that I cherish the most. When I get to learn from them by simply being in their presence. These balms are my offering to you from these healing beings and places.

Demeter’s Daughter

The Invisible One & Our Lady of The Ashes other balms you may enjoy

The balm Demeter’s Daughter contains the medicine of the myth of Demeter and Persephone, an ancient tale with possible origins to even older Goddess tales such as the Decent of Inanna. In ancient Greece this myth held a particularly transformative and powerful role as the central tale to the annual Eleusinian Mysteries that took place at the Oracle at Delphi. Not much is known about what happened during the 10 day rite of passage that all were welcome to attend from kings to servants, but we do know that people often felt at ease in life and no longer afraid of death after leaving. The story of Demeter and Persephone is one of innocence lost and power reclaimed, and much like the Eleusinian mysteries, we know little of what transpires for Persephone from the Myth when she is abducted by Hades into the Underworld, but we know she is forever changed by this extreme and sudden event. And while she loses her innocence, she ultimately gains and claims her place in the world from her time spent below. When she returns to her mother Demeter, she is no longer simply a Goddess of Mt. Olypmus, but now The Queen of the Underworld, and one of the few Gods/Goddeses who can traverse all three realms of existence: from the middle world of mortal humans, to the underworld of the dead, and of course to the realm of her brethern, the gods on Mt. Olympus.

Central to the tale are the themes of the divine femine we find across cultures—the storied account of the feminine journey to transform from maiden into mother, and mother into crone, also known as the triple Goddess—the force that connects us to the power of death and rebirth—connects us to being of nature instead of in dominion over “nature.”

To nourish and and protect our skin and our souls Demeter’s Daughter balm gifts us with the kind of care and love only a mother knows for her daughter, rooted in unconditional, fierce love. Energetically this balm protects us with Yarrow’s ability to quickly weave boundaries around our most vulnerable wound, creating a strong sense of being held and cloaked in the mantle of Motherly love. Demeter’s Daughter is a deeply nourishing balm that is both gentle and potent as the Juniper initiates the act of lifting our spirits followed by lavenders sweet scent that pours into every cell of our bodies and nourishes our nervous system by balancing the lows and the highs into a smooth and integrated flow.

  • Yarrow Achillea milifoleum is the ultimate protector of boundaries and her story is the archetypal journey of what it means to be alive, to be vulnerable and therefore woundable. Yarrow’s latin name Achillea comes from the story of Achilles. Fated hero whose mother dipped him in the river styx to make him immortal, but she held him by his ankle as she dipped him and so his one ankle was the one part of his body that was mortal. The archetypal Achilles heel. Achilles later died in battle during the Trojan war when Paris shot him with an arrow that was guided by the God Apollo who knew Achilles’ weak spot. The arrow went through his heel and his life ended when he bled to death from the wound. Yarrow—Achillea—his name sake, is the one plant that might have saved him. Yarrow is a coagulant and helps the blood thicken to form scabs, in addition it is anit-viral, anti-bacterial and even anti-fungal, making this plant the best boundary protector warding off infection and also fortifying our ability to keep what we don’t want out of our system.

  • Juniper Larrea tridentata is one of the longest living plant organisms on Earth. Chaparral is a true elder. Root systems have been found that are over 11,000 years old that have continued to thrive through clone reproduction by sending out new shoots through these ancient root systems. Chaparral is both Antiseptic and Antibacterial. Known for fighting of staph infections as well as fungus infections. It is also a powerful antioxidant making it an ideal ally during the summer months when our skin is exposed to sun’s rays that can lead to excess free radicals.

  • Lavender Lavendula oficinalis has been used ceremonial for thousands of years by the people indigenous to Turtle Island to cleanse energetically and invite in allies and ancestors. Sage is particularly powerful for our lungs and respiratory system. The smell of sage calms the stomach, the nerves and the soul. This sage is tended in Ojai and is not wild harvested, as this plant is currently being over harvested in the wild.

  • Comfrey Symphitum is one of the longest living plant organisms on Earth.

  • Fireweed Chimerium angustifolium  is a plant that thrives in harsh conditions. It likes soils that have been disturbed and gets its names as one of the first plants that comes back after a fire. Talk about resilient! It is a powerful antibacterial, antiviral and astringent. Its cleansing properties make it an ideal ally for infections as well as for clearing energetic blockages. You’ll find fireweed on the sides of roads and highways and in worn out fields left untended. Fireweed blesses us with new life. A balm for the soul during hard times or after devastation, Fireweed reminds us of the resilience of life. It's vibrant fuchsia blossoms reaching triumphantly towards the sky connecting heaven with earth in celebration.

  • Willow Salix is a plant that has been used for thousands of years both medicinally and for basket weaving. An ancient remedy for fever and aches, willow contains Salicin—a precursor to modern day Aspirin, making willow a wodnerful anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. Willow grows abundantly and easily that paired with the flexibilyt of it’s branches makes it one a plant of resiliency. Whenever you need relief from a painful situation—embodied or energetic—reach for willow to help you find the flexiliblity needed to grow with ease.
